Political Contributions 2004
Mike Gabbard's campaign contributions have attracted some scrutiny by those who have been concerned by his connections to Science of Identity.
There are glaringly suspicious trends in his contributions, such as a third coming from donors who were 'retired' or 'homemakers'. A substantial proportion came from out of state donations which doesn't make any sense when Mike Gabbard was running for a State office. Couples that were single income and families of modest means donated thousands of dollars. One third of the total came in a nine day period from 21st to 29th of June 2004, including 43 payments of $2000 and 11 payments of $1000. There was very little variation in donation amounts overall.
Carol Gabbard listed her occupation as Board of Education in donating $2000 which was an unpaid position. Tulsi Gabbard made two donations totalling $2250 despite the fact that she was an elected representative of the Democrat Party at the time.
A complaint filed with the Federal Electoral Commission by Alex Achmat was dismissed because it did not provide evidence that that contributors had been reimbursed. Source
An understanding of the Science of Identity and a detailed examination of campaign contributions demonstrates that Mike Gabbard was elected with the support of the cult which he will not admit to being a part of. The donor list includes Chris Butler's stepson, the widow of his best friend, the husband of SIF President, at least 5 individuals who operate recruitment centers, Employees of Healthy's Inc and their spouses, the psychologist who reviewed Chris Butler's book "Who Are You?" and several Noni connections.
Followers from Australia, and other countries, habitually carry 'donations' for Chris Butler into America. Bringing in $2000 US dollars does not attract tax, and it is highly unlikely this income is recorded for the IRS. Once in the country it is possible to have money sent by anyone via a service such as Western Union which is received in the guise of being a tourist who is simply getting some extra cash from home to fund their holiday. Amounts up to $1000, expecially under the circumstances, do not attract any scrutiny or taxation.
Chris Butler does order his followers to make political donations and he does order them to vote. It is not acceptable in the beliefs cultivated in Science of Identity to disregard a direction from him, regardless of what it is. What is difficult to comprehend for those who have not experienced Science of Identity is that followers which appear to have a comfortable or wealthy income from employment or ownership of a profitable business habitually lead quite austere lifestyles, well below what their income could provide, and even in debt and poverty, because of Chris Butler's preaching that it is pleasing to God to give as much money as possible to him. Initiated disciples give 50% of their income. Employees of Science of Identity owned businesses commonly have 25% of their paycheck deducted by the disciples in charge as "devotional service". Many do not even get paid and work for free with the understanding that they are being pleasing to God in doing so. Chris Butler takes houses, land and businesses from his followers - he even received his wife as a gift of devotion. It is difficult to understand why so many people would submit to this, but knowing that they do it is even more difficult to imagine followers of Chris Butler having thousands of dollars available to make political contributions.
